Centre certified to offer courses

THE IT Job Training Centre in Port Moresby was certified by the National Training Council as one of the training institutions that conforms to the standards set in the National Quality Assurance Framework (NQAF).
During the certificate presentation in Port Moresby last week, NTC secretariat director Kinsella Geoffrey said training provided by private institutions must be up to the standard as expected and approved by the Government.
“To improve training standards, NTC has introduced NQAF to renew and register training institutions based on a new standard but many could not make it.
“In the NQAF, we look at a
trainer’s programme standard and facility standard in those private institutions.
“And most of the private training institutions currently operating in the country do not comply with these new standards,” Geoffrey said.
He said NTC at the moment could not do anything against them because it did not have the power under its Act to put a stop to them.
“But we are currently working on reviewing our policy and legislation to account for such measures and we commend those few institution that meet the standards in the NQAF like IT Job Training Centre (ITJTC) and others.”
ITJTC managing director Sunny Sun said the certification was a milestone achievement for them.
Sun added that ITJTC was also looking at securing jobs for its graduates.
He said ITJTC has been providing training on information technology, office administration and business courses but were also extending into other technical strands.
Sun said based on the desire of the students, they could complete their tradesmen training with ITJTC.
“If they completed NC1 (National Certificate 1) and wish to continue to NC2 and NC3, we facilitate that training in collaboration with the national training council so they can go through that process to the National Apprentice and Trade Testing Board (NATTB) to have a tradesman certificate.”

  • There are people running short training to empower women groups in some Provinces to upskill them in Financial Literacy which is very much needed in communities to increase their competences in managing money.

This is done without training certificate. Is it necessary that such training should be certified.
