A VOLUNTEER at the Covid-19 call centre says her role helps cut out misinformation and rumours about coronavirus.
Maggie Veve, a communications officer in the PNG-Australia partnership team, said being an operator at the call centre was a critical role.
“Our job is to provide facts,” she said.
“People have a lot of questions and there is a lot of misinformation out there.”
Veve said working as a team in the call centre with Government officers and other partners to address the threat of Covid-19 demonstrated unity in the face of the global pandemic.
“This is a time when we all need to pull together as Papua New Guineans and as a global community.”
According to a statement from the Australian High Commission, the PNG Covid-19 hotline, set up by the Health Department and supported through the PNG-Australia partnership was set up to provide accurate information and advice to people seeking information on the virus and the Government’s systems setup to assist cases and complaints.
