THE City Specialist Medical Centre in Port Moresby is upgrading its information technology and streamlining processes to improve its services.

Chief executive officer Dr Mark Paul said the centre had embraced a vision to make a difference by assuming a new branding and image with great emphasis on quality and efficient evidence-based best practices.

“In a spirit of candor, we endeavour to improve the quality and delivery of healthcare to our clients in the National Capital District and Papua New Guinea,” he said.

“When I am sick and walk into a hospital, I want good quality health treatment, which has been lacking in the country.

“PNG is at the crossroads of wealth, economy and trade, which does bring challenges like increase in demand for quality health care,” Paul said.

“The growing need for improved healthcare and demand for access to specialised medical services is the result of an increase in urbanisation.

“I commend the government for its commitment on improving the health care system in the country because we ought to put money where citizens will benefit,” he said.

“I would like to encourage people to visit clinics and hospitals for health checks despite it being a simple urine test or breast screening.

“Investing in health might seem to be costly but it is worthwhile.

“And our biggest challenge is the trading of counterfeit medicines that are being sold on the streets,” Paul said.
