THE rate of HIV infection has declined from 2% to 0.9% nationwide, National Capital District Provincial AIDS Council chairman Pr Daniel Hewali said yesterday.
Hewali said, in the NCD, the infection rate had fallen by 0.7%.
He said by comparing
the differences in the rates of HIV infection, his council had been a role model to the 19 provincial councils over the past five years.
Hewali said since he became chairman in 2002, they had engaged faith-based organisations to share thoughts with staff and volunteers for an hour every Monday.
“That programme was
very effective and touched the lives of many people living with HIV/AIDS in NCD to accept Christ as their saviour and they came out publicly to help with the awareness,” Hewali said.
He called on pastors to reach out to bring hope to the less fortunate.
“I have been the chairman for 10 years and now believe that God has called me for another mission,” he said.
“I am contesting the NCD regional seat with an ambition to put human development first, with God’s fear and direction to create a better society.”
Hewali thanked HIV response coordinator Isu Aluvula, staff, stakeholders, partners and  volunteers for their undivided support.
Aluvula said Hewali had contributed greatly to the fight against HIV/AIDS in NCD.
