Chairman encourages schools to have improvement plan

ALL education institutions in East New Britain (ENB) have been encouraged to have a school learning improvement plan (Slip).
ENB education chairman Joe Endo said this last week during a graduation in Kokopo.
He said it was compulsory for all schools from elementary to secondary to have this plan.
Endo, who is president of Central Gazelle local level government, said Slip would allow the community to see developments taking place in the schools, especially with the tuition fee free funds or from the school fees.
He said there was a change of curriculum and parents and students needed to embrace and understand these changes in the education sector.
“If there is no plan, there will be no change as plans guide one institution to achieve the dreams and vision and there is a beauty of having plans,” Endo said.
He acknowledged those who had put their efforts into formulating their plans already.
Endo urged head teachers and school board chairmen not to be too dependent on the Government but to have the slip plan to guide them.
“One of the important parts in planning is implementation, therefore, these plans need to be implemented and I urge everyone to make these plans a priority,” he said.
Endo said behaviour was a big problem today and ethical behaviour needed to be the first thing taught in the early years of schooling.
He explained that Slip plans were to be implemented over a three-year period which was underlined in the six focus areas with strategies which the school needed to use and achieve within the three years.
“Such plans set the pace and this sets the way forward.”
