Chairman: Scouting helps children
The National, Friday February 26th, 2016
SCOUTING encourages and instils moral values in children and young people to become law-abiding citizens, Morobe provincial scouts chairman Bob Howden says.
He said members must be proactive in building scouts and girl guides through various programmes to groom future national leaders.
Chief trainer James Uwisa and field commissioner James Masia were told to encourage more training involving school children and young people in Lae.
Howden said the scout and girl guides movements were founded by Lord Baden Powell on February 22, 1905.
“Our promise is important. Respect each other, be kind to all and enemy to none, respect the environment and be friendly to nature,” Howden said.
“Do serious things (programmes) to build the scouts and girl guides movement to ensure the programmes and activities extended to involving interested schools and community members.”
Lae MP Loujaya Kouza will assist in rebuilding the Scout’s hall in Eriku this year.
Howden through Express Freight Management presented a motorbike to assist Uwisa in his work.
The occasion included the investiture of Bovil Bunawa as the Finschhafen field commissioner to look after troops in the Gagidu and Kenong Primary Schools, and Dregarhafen Secondary School.
Salvation Army Captain Joe Enuma was bestowed as scouts chaplain.
The movement involves 35 million children, youths and adults in 185 countries.
PNG is the 110th affiliated member of the world scouts movement.
