Chamber recognises contribution to society, industry

THE PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum Industry has awarded six industry players for their contributions to society and the industry this year.
This was done during the second Industry Recognition awards dinner on Tuesday in Port Moresby.
The awards were given out in six different categories which included:

  • Recognition of outstanding women’s contribution in the resources sector in 2019 – Oil Search Foundation;
  • recognition of outstanding health and safety initiatives in 2019 – International SOS;
  • recognition of outstanding landowner company shared value performance in 2019 – NKW holdings;
  • recognition of outstanding PNG Local content or training champion in 2019 – Ok Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML);
  • recognition of outstanding environmental initiatives in 2019 – ExxonMobil; and,
  • recognition of outstanding humanitarian initiatives in 2019 – Wafi-Golpu Ltd.

Executive director of chamber Albert Mellam said: “There was a vigorous assessments and there can only be one winner.
“It was a merit-based selection and there can only be one winner.”
Mellam said it was the second time the chamber had recognised companies for their contributions following the inaugural event held in Sydney.
“There has been a significant improvement in terms of how we go about in this particular event.” The awards night coincided with the 2019 PNG Mining and Petroleum conference held this week.
“I must thank the Chamber of Mines and Petroleum and the council for supporting conference and the awards and also the chamber’s staff who staged the conference.”
