Champions set to continue perfect start

DIGICEL Cup defending champions Tigers will look to continue their perfect start when they host the winless Mt Hagen Eagles at the Lae Rugby League Ground on Sunday (3.30pm kick-off).
Prior to the match, the Mendi Muruks will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season – a 12-14 defeat to the Hela Wigmen – against Waghi Tumbe (1.15pm kick-off).
Tigers coach Stanley Tepend is expected to hand former Wynnum Manly fullback Edene Gebbie his club debut on the wing in front of their home fans.
The odds are heavily stacked against the Billy Gau-coached Eagles who will need to hit the ground running if they are to record a positive result in their round-five fixture.
Meanwhile, the Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition (PNGNRLC) is still awaiting a response from the Office of National Pandemic Controller for its Port Moresby matches this weekend.
As at 7pm yesterday, no response has been forthcoming from the controller’s office.
PNGNRLC manager Stanley Hondina said a submission had been forwarded to the controller for additional precautionary measures for teams playing.
