Chan warns of threats

 MINING Minister Byron Chan yesterday warned that threats by an entity known as Ipaita Ltd over the Mt Kare mine in Enga would be dealt with by the law.

He was responding to threats by Ipaita against the legitimate exploration licence holder of tenement EL 1093 at Mt Kare, Summit Development Ltd.

“Ipaita have, in recent correspondence to me, threatened to force Summit’s eviction from the site,” Chan said.

“Ipaita has threatened to operate a mining operation with or without a mining permit and have publicised a memorandum of agreement (MOA), which purports to provide benefits to a variety of Mt Kare landowners from a fictitious right to a mining lease.
