Change needed in Alotau

Letters

ALOTAU has no elected Parliament leaders living, breathing and walking among us to know what is happening, what needs to be done to help us ordinary citizens be the front- liners in bringing change.
Our town needs change in reviving its known status as peaceful, respectful, friendly, and hardworking township.
Yes it may seem so obvious we’ve grown in terms of infrastructure development but there is also an increase in illegal alcohol-brewing, illegal settlements, and unemployment.
The township is also running out of space for expansion. Legal residential areas are also surrounded by settlements.
We need research and better planning before we become another Port Moresby, strangers in our own land.
Law and order crisis is on the rise every day. I am not sure if we have noticed. So far we have had two local settlements burnt down.
Are we all blind? Youths as young as Grade 6 students are holding weapons and doing daylight robberies.
There is no guaranteed safety to even walk alone or travel by sea.
Our human resource needs empowerment and guidance to strengthen positive outcomes before all other developments come in to place.
We need our leaders and citizens in Alotau to stage a public forums about these issues. We need to start all over again from basics.
We need to get our township before it is too late.
