Change of law to help Water PNG operate nationwide

WATER PNG can soon operate nationwide, including in Port Moresby.
This follows the National Executive Council’s approval to amend the National Water and Sewerage Act (NWSA) and to repeal the National Capital District (NCD) Water and Sewerage Act in Parliament next month.
Public Enterprise and State Investment Minister William Duma, pictured, told The National that Water PNG was governed by an Act of Parliament and it operated in all centres except Port Moresby.
Eda Ranu operate in NCD.
“With the amended NWSA, Water PNG will take charge of all water services in the National Capital District as well because Cabinet had also approved the merger of PNG Water and Eda Ranu,” he added.
Previously under the old Act, Eda Ranu was responsible for sanitation and water supply in the national Capital District while Water PNG is responsible for other centres.
But the amendment of the Act recently gave Water PNG as the sole provider of water and sanitation services in Papua New Guinea.
