POLICE in Kerevat, East New Britain (ENB), have charged a man and a woman with murder.
The two are in custody at the Kerevat Police Station and are expected to appear before the Kerevat District Court soon.
Provincial Police Commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali said Jonathan Robert, 22, and Joycelyn Jeffrey, 20, both from Rapitok No.3 in the Toma-Vunadidir local level government (LLG) of Gazelle, were alleged to have killed a man last November.
Chief Insp Tabali told The National in Kokopo yesterday that the alleged incident occurred on Nov 28 between 3am and 4am at Rapitok No.3.
Police alleged that on Nov 27, the two accused suspects (Robert and Jeffrey) were drinking alcohol with the deceased, Arem Pinia, and three others.
After the drinks, the two accused and the deceased left and were heading back home when an argument started.
Robert allegedly got a tree branch and hit Pinia multiple times on the head and body.
Chief Insp Tabali said Pinia fell to the ground unconscious and the pair fled the scene.
Locals then discovered Pinia’s body the next day by a roadside and reported the matter to police in Kerevat.
Police found and arrested the pair. Tabali thanked Kerevat police for their efforts.
