A MAN facing charges of abducting and raping of a woman at a residence in Gordon, Port Moresby, has been remanded.
Joshua Auli, 38, from Ambunti in East Sepik, appeared before Magistrate Garry Unjo at the Committal Court in Waigani yesterday who read the two charges to him.
He is scheduled to return to court on March 25 from remand.
Police alleged that he abducted the female acquaintance at the Manu Autoport in Port Moresby by pulling her into a van as she was walking by.
Auli took her into the living room of the house despite her attempts to reason with him.
He allegedly questioned her about a police restraining order served on him.
Police said she tried to calm him down but he got angry and allegedly pulled her into the bedroom.
The woman started screaming but was allegedly grabbed by the throat.
She lost consciousness for a while and later woke up naked under the shower.
Police alleged that she was then again sexually assaulted.
Police arrived at the home soon after and knocked at the back door.
But the man allegedly covered the woman’s mouth to stop her from screaming.
He then tried to escape but was arrested by police.

  • Nowadays there’s no freedom for women/girls to roam anywhere in town or even in the village by themselves because law and order problem is a issue especially rape cases. This occur because marijuana consumption is high at almost every communities we are in and therefore, the government should find best solutions to solve such problems in the country.
