Charity golf event to raise funds for cancer society
The National, Monday July 14th, 2014
THE 2014 Daffodil Charity Golf tournament was launched on Thursday at the Lae Yacht Club.
Proceeds and funds collected from the event will go to the PNG Cancer Relief Society to help address cancer in the country.
Chairman of the organising committee and CEO of Mapai Transport, Jacob Luke, officiated at the launching.
Luke presented a cheque of K50,000 to the PNG Cancer Relief Society on behalf of his company. “Mapai is committed to helping the PNG Cancer Relief Society,” he said.
There are other corporate partners that support the PNG Cancer Relief Society by participating and pushing for fundraising.
Oil Search (PNG) Limited corporate affairs coordinator Ruth Waram presented a cheque of K25,000 to the society.
Waram said Oil Search was happy to contribute to a good cause and that the fight against cancer was one that individuals, as well as private and government, must join hands and work together.
“When people know their status early then there is a high chance of the cancer being prevented, then at advanced stage. While some can afford the cancer treatment others cannot,” Waram said.
“There is a gap and it is an opportunity for private sector to be working together with the government and NGO group to fill that gap by.”
