HUMAN resources (HR) officers in the public service must verify if employer contributions to Nambawan Super Ltd (NSL) members are being paid to the fund.
In a workshop held yesterday in Port Moresby, Department of Personal Management (DPM) deputy secretary Agnes Friday said there were instances when retired public servants retire and find that their employer contributions had not been paid to the NSL.
Friday said HR officers should also have one-on-one consultation with staff who wanted to retire as the retirement process was long.
She said other entitlements must be done or handled by HR department separately from retirement calculations.
“There are some public servants who have not contributed to Nambawan Super, their employer contributions is not with the fund” Friday said.
“You (HR) need to always check with the finance department to ensure they run the check.”
The retirement age 50 years and those who wish to retire before that are advised to resign and not retire from an organisation.
It was explained that retirement was different from retrenchment and that a compensation or ex-gratia payments are only paid in the situation of a retrenchment.
Personal emoluments for 2020 is estimated to be K411,805,991 according to the DPM.
