THE Papua New Guinea Chess Federation has been quiet over the past few years and they are coming back with a national chess tournament next month.
President Mark Aiio said he was excited about the tournament and hoped that many people would show interest to compete.
“This tournament is an opportunity for chess lovers to come out and contest for the national title,” he said.
“Chess is a sport off its own with many benefits as it boost the mind’s reasoning and decision-making skills.
“It’s important for mind development, especially in young people.”
Aiio said the federation was quiet due to financial constraints.
“The association had been quiet for the past three years since its last registration with the Investment Promotion Authority in 2015,” he said.
The three-day tournament is expected to be held from Sept 15-17.
Aiio said he can be contacted on 74899697 for further information.
