HIGHLANDS police chief Teddy Tei has condemned the actions of two officers sent from Port Moresby and Lae to break into the Chuave district treasury office in Chimbu.

Assistant Police Commissioner  Tei wants to know who sent the officers into the region without informing him.

“I strongly condemn their actions and want an investigation to establish who issued the orders for them to come to the highlands and Simbu without my knowledge,” Tei said.

Tei said he only learnt of their presence in the region of the officers from Lae and Port Moresby after Assistant Commissioner Operations Jim Andrews called him.

The two police officers were accompanied by an officer from the Ombudsman Commission in Chimbu.

The two officers were immediately told to return to their stations because the police hierarchy did not know why they were there.

Chimbu provincial police commander Superintendent Albert Beli is concerned about the manner the two officers behaved.

They reportedly attacked Chuave district treasurer Michael Aglua then broke into the treasury building in search of “documents” last Saturday.

Aglua was seriously injured and his vehicle plus one belonging to Chuave MP Wera Mori were driven to Lae by the police officers.

Chuave locals Rambi Kono and Bake Tolsie said a Chuave policeman and the carpenter fixing the door were bashed up by the armed policemen.
