IT IS extremely satisfying when you see your children graduate but a lot of hardwork goes to being a father and a mother at the same time.

For father of five, Cosmas Serok, it has been a roller-coaster ride since his wife Agnella passed away in 2009.

Last week, the Port Moresby ANZ Bank property manager completed one of many milestones when his 15-year-old twins, Bonny and Debra, completed their Grade 8 at St Peter Channel Primary School in NCD.

“It’s not easy playing both parental roles,” Serok said.

Not one to show his emotions, Serok was naturally but quietly proud of his twins’ achievements.

Next year, the siblings will separate for the first time, with Bonny being accepted at De La Salle Secondary School and Debra at Gordon Secondary.

“Just to come this far has been a journey in itself and there are miles to go yet,” Serok said.

Bonny said despite the tough times and strict rules his father placed on them, he would never have had it another way.

Also in the family are older sister Jenny, 21, who is studying computer science at Divine Word University and younger siblings Loraine, 11, and the ‘Boss’ Bobby, four.

Bonny said they live at Malolo Estate, 8-Mile and were not allowed to go anywhere unless they had dad’s permission.

He said he and his mates had a touch rugby team called Mix Brothers which kept them busy on the weekends.

Bonny always looks forward to going to their father’s favourite club, the Car Club.

“You can’t beat the hamburgers they make there,” he said.

Bonny said they would be spending Christmas at their father’s village on Karkar Island in Madang.

“I’m looking forward to go fishing with my uncles,” he said.

Bonny said he wanted to go into banking when he finished school.
