ART can enhance children’s skills development in all curriculum areas, according to Virtues Child Day Care director Theresa Boli.

Welcoming parents and guardians to the schools’ cultural day in Port Moresby yesterday, she said children fully expressed themselves when participating in art activities.

Children were dressed in their traditional attires displaying their different cultures through presentation of items in their regional groups.

“By involving in culture, children will be able to express feelings and emerging concepts, understanding freely and using different art medium,” she said.

She said they would learn more about their own identity when they talked and represented various groups.

It was the school’s fourth year of operation and engaged a United States Non-Government Organisation called Full Circle Learning to develop a curriculum up to Grade 12.

“We are fortunate to have the founder and developer agreeing to come and provide further skills training for our teachers,” she said.

She said early child care was important because it was the foundation of a child and should be right.

She also encouraged Education Department to recognise this important foundation and assist in terms of funding and training for early child care teachers.
