STUDENTS in East New Britain will participate in a children’s journalism training this month.

Live and Learn Environmental Education Inc has organised the training which will include teachers and students from 21 selected schools in the Kokopo and Gazelle districts.

The students will be trained to write media releases on certain issues affecting them.

They will also be trained to understand what the media is, reporting and interview skills and how to compile and present media reports.

The students will also learn about their rights and responsibilities, child abuse and on how to use their rights and the media to be their voice.

The training will run for three days at Kokopo Primary School.

A brief from Live and Learn Environment Education Inc  stated it was important for the children to understand the power of the media to address issues affecting them.

It said such issues included HIV/AIDS and other social problems involving young people.

“With the power of the media, a lot more can be addressed only if the children learn and grasp it,” the brief said.
