CHIMBU will be the latest province to join the PNG Rugby League Foundation’s national schoolboys competition this year.

As part of its commitment to include more provinces in this year’s competition, the PNGRLF development team visited Kundiawa.

With representatives from the provincial government and school officials in attendance, the organisation and management of the Chimbu school rugby league programme was discussed.

All were  excited about the prospects of the province doing well in this year’s competition.

PNGRLF junior development manager and Kumul great, Arnold Krewanty expressed his excitement about Chimbu taking part this year:

“Chimbu province has contributed some the best Kumuls over the years,” Krewanty said.

“Players such as Bal Numapo and current Chimbu Governor Noah Kool; both of whom I’ve had the privilege of playing alongside.

“I’ll be quite keen to see if the next crop of Kumuls emerge through our junior programme here in Chimbu.”

The inclusion of Chimbu into the national schoolboys programme was partly due to the effort of Kool, who pledged K100,000 towards the funding of the programme in his province.

Other Highlands provinces to be included in this year’s competition are Enga and Western Highlands.

The PNG Rugby League Foundation team will be visiting both provinces next week.

Last year the Highlands Zone beat the New Guinea Islands.
