THE people of Chimbu have expressed their gratitude to the government for providing tuition fee- free education.
In a rally in Kundiawa on Monday, the people thanked the government for taking the burden of finding money for school fees off their shoulders.
The rally was organised by Willie Umba, Jack Upa and Bernard Kua.
Upa said Chimbu was disadvantaged with its unfavorable geographical features but it relied heavily on human resource.
He said the government’s free education policy was a relief for many parents.
“From the public opinion we gathered, there were overwhelming support to the government for relieving parents in free education and subsidised education,” Upa said.
Tyson Konge from Kup in Kerowagi district said he has seven other brothers and sisters going to school and his parents would have to find K6,000 to meet their school fees.
He felt sad seeing his parents trying their best to find money for their school fees.
“My parents grow garden crops to sell but they earn only little that could not sufficiently meet their needs,” he said.
Concerned mother Agnes Sil from Kup in Kerowagi district said the road conditions had gotten worse.
Pastor Jacob Kindagl of Monguma village in Kerowagi said since independence, free education was being experienced for the first time.
Kombo Danga, who has two children attending the Kerowagi Secondary School, said the government has brought relief to the parents.
“It’s a huge relief for the parents and we applaud the government,” Danga said.
