FOUR rejected rugby league players from Chimbu picked up by Enga Mioks have starred in the opening match of the Digicel Cup last weekend in Enga.

Kumul Esau Siune, Sonny Daing, Moksy Kee and Andrew Sipil played pivotal roles in the 40-8 thrashing of the TNA Lions by the Mioks at the Johnson Siki oval in Wabag last Sunday.

Daing, a try-scoring machine for the then Kongo Coffee Warriors, scored two tries and had a hand in the other tries.

Sipil took out the man of the match award and Kee and Siune were instrumental in the Mioks win.

Local sponsor of the Sine-Yongo team for the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup Sam Goiye expressed deep satisfactions that the boys he bred in Kundiawa were recognised and had secured a contract with the Mioks.

Goiye said the 40-8 score-line was a milestone for the Mioks in clashes between teams from Enga and Chimbu.

He questioned the Chimbu provincial government on the allocation of K300,000 towards TNA Lions management, saying that did not seem to have had any significant impact. “The Lions team does not have fair representation of the six districts of Chimbu. The team cannot claim to represent the province.”

Attempts to get comments from Lions franchise owner Gerald Philip were unsuccessful yesterday.
