TWO parliamentarians from Chimbu stepped in to give financial assistance to the Simbu Women In Business (SWIB).

Coordinator Christina Tambagle said Kerowagi MP Camillus Dangma and Chuave MP Wera Mori gave K200,000 each to support women in their district to get loans to start small business activities.

Tambagle said they used the money as seed capital for SWIB to roll out 80,000 Pass Books where women in the province and districts were given mini loans on kina to kina basis to start up small business activities.

She said they started a ‘Meri Plus Bank’ where SWIB was a major shareholder and women in each district had a daunting task to raise K2 million to start the bank.

“We bought a new Coaster bus named ‘Meri Plus’ to run as a PMV along the Highlands Highway to raise money towards the cause,” Tambagle said.

She confirmed that women from Kerowagi district were first in the province to form their executive management team and started to access money for mini-business activities.

“Kerowagi has full membership and  with the MPs support the women from Kerowagi already have K200, 000 seed capital, it is a legacy for him to leave money with the women to benefit from.

“I call on mothers in Kerowagi to take full advantage of this and utilise it to the fullest,” she said.

Tambagle said SWIB’s primary aim was to develop saving culture within family units towards making them become economically sustainable.
