Chimbu’s political choices matter

Letters

IN the mind of the people of Chimbu, votes are directly related to money.
In short, the voters vote for money; they don’t care about policies and governance.
Stiff and blind support for incumbent MPs and challengers by hungry relatives and ethnic followers will continue to disturb the peace.
The attack and violence in Kundiawa town was therefore inevitable.
The Government is also at fault.
The Government needs to support a service delivery system in which the MPs are not the last decision-makers of where the money is spent.
MPs should be selfless, rid themselves of greedy followers, lead inclusively and maintain a higher standard with decorum.
We personalise politics for private benefit and in doing so promote ethnic and territorial conflict.
Seats in Parliament are sacred only because of the benefits that can be gained from them.
Stop muddying the Simbu governor’s office with Wantoks and families who will continue the chain of conflict.
Whoever is chosen should be an inclusive leader and speaks on the floor of Parliament as a legislator of the nation.
Simbu need legislators in Parliament, not advocate for basic service delivery.
Service delivery is necessary but should not be the only role expected of an honourable Member of Parliament.
