CHINA has the capacity to deal with the Coronavirus and containing it, says China’s ambassador to PNG Xue Bing.
He reiterated the assurance by President Xi Jinping that China had put in place strict measures to contain the pandemic and was achieving results.
Xue said the priority was the prevention and control of the outbreak with more than 20,000 confirmed cases, 23,000 suspected cases and 425 deaths.
“We have also built two hospitals in less than two weeks, which can have up to 1,000 beds to treat patients,” he said.
“We also have 616 patients confirmed with coronavirus, who were treated with various flu and cold treatments and discharged.”
Xue said the Chinese government did not want to “export the virus”.
“People coming in from Chinese ports have gone through some very strict screening processes before being allowed to leave the country,” he said.
“The Chinese government has also been very open with the PNG Government.
“I have been speaking with the prime minister and various department and agencies and giving them an update of what’s happening.”
Xue said the Chinese government was ready to assist PNG should there be any confirmed cases.
