PEOPLE in Morobe and Eastern Highlands affected by the recent earthquake will benefit from a US$100,000 (K352,107.98) aid given by the Red Cross Society of China.
Chinese Embassy’s Charge de Affairs and Deputy Head of Mission Chen Jiliang handed over a cheque for the amount to Defence secretary and National Disaster Committee chairman Hari Akipe yesterday.
Chen said they were concerned when PNG was hit by the earthquake a few weeks ago.
He said the disaster “pulled at the heart” of the Chinese people and Government.
Akipe thanked the Chinese Embassy, the Government of China, and its people for the help.
“This assistance shows endurance, strengthened relations and support from China as an important development partner,” he said.
“The assistance will be used to support the University of Goroka council in providing alternative accommodation for students to complete the academic year.”
