CHINA’S President Xi Jinping is reportedly looking forward to meeting Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae when he visits Papua New Guinea for the Apec Leaders’ Summit in November.
The message was relayed to Sir Bob yesterday by China’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Zeng Zeguang.
Zeguang and his delegation, including Chinese Ambassador Xue Bing were paying a courtesy call on the governor-general.
He said China is sincere about the close relationship that has developed between the two countries over the past 40 years.
“President Jinping believes the successful relationship developed between our two countries over the years has been due to three main pillars and they are, political trust in that we respect each other’s political status, mutual support in that China as a developing country has been supporting other developing countries like PNG through infrastructure development and people-to-people friendship through the provision of training opportunities for Papua New Guineans and medical services like the visit of the medical ship Ark Peace in Port Moresby,” Zeguang said.
Zeguang said China’s economy has been growing strongly and PNG should take advantage of this opportunity to increase export to China.
Sir Bob highlighted China’s assistance to PNG, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development and the current health cooperation which sees a number of Chinese doctors serving at the Port Moresby General Hospital annually.
“There is potential for further investment between our two countries and we welcome investors from China to explore investment opportunities in PNG.
