Chinese firm gets K2.6bil worth of projects

CHINA Harbour Engineering Company (Chec) has been awarded 23 projects in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands since 2011 with a total contract value of more than US$800 million (K2.6 billion), an official says.
Project manager Yuan Huiming said Chec was a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Ltd, a state entity.
Huiming said 10 projects had been completed including the Lae Port Tidal Basin development phase one, US$319 million (K1 billion); National Capital District road projects including the construction of Baruni and Gerehu to 9-Mile roads, US$146 million (K46mil); and the design and construction of Koura Way road, US$29 million (K93mil).
He said projects under construction included Apec road, about US$35 million (K112mil); Highlands Highway in the Western Highlands, US$100 million (K321mil); and the Ela Beach road redevelopment and landscaping, US$22 million (K70mil).
