A DELEGATION of more than 30 people from Guangdong, in China, visited Port Moresby last week.
Led by the secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Community, Li Xi, the delegation spent three days in the capital.
They visited Parliament House, paid a courtesy visit to Speaker Job Pomat, followed by a meeting with Minister for Lands and Physical Planning Justin Tkatchenko.
The delegation then had a meeting with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
The delegation toured some sites with relevance to Guangdong, including:

  • Huawei PNG at Telikom Rumana Building. The Huawei headquarters is based in Shenzen, Guangdong;
  • China-PNG Anti Malaria Centre in Hohola, which is drawing support from Guangdong;
  • Butuka Academy in Sabama, whichs is funded by Guangdong City, Shenzhen, at a cost of K70 million; and,
  • BNBM Product Exhibition in Gordon, a major retailer of manufactured products from Guangdong

Butuka Academy comprises 16 secondary school classes, 26 primary school classes, 10 elementary classes, multi-function hall and a stadium.
BNBM Gordon branch manager Terry Wu told The National that Guangdong manufactured most products they sold. He said the visit was a great show of support.
“This is important for BNBM because the support that comes from Guangdong is showing how we have support from the major manufacturer in China that supplies not only PNG but the world,” Wu said.
“This is the first time and we feel that this will have to grow and become a bigger supplier for Papua New Guinea.”
The delegation concluded their tour with a visit to Port Moresby Nature Park.
