Lae Tigers ready to prey on ‘battered’ Wigmen

OWNER Ian Chow says he is confident that his Lae Tigers will win their fourth Digicel Cup title when they face the Hela Wigmen in Port Moresby on Sunday.
He told The National on Monday that his side were injury-free, fit and motivated to take the field at Sir John Guise Stadium after a week off following their major-semifinal win over minor premiers Rabaul Gurias.
Chow said the two-week preparation would work in their favour as the Wigmen had played three consecutive finals matches heading into the decider.
“I think they (Wigmen) are battered,” the Lae Biscuit Company owner said.
“They have played three hard, physical games to get to the grand final and I believe that will be a disadvantage for them.
“I watched them against the Gurias last week, they had three players injured on the field.
“The Tigers enjoyed their week. They are all fit and ready for the grand final.
“I think they (Tigers) should claim their fourth title.”
Chow said he was proud of his team as they had been successful in just 10 years in the country’s premier rugby league competition.
“We have been to four grand finals in 10 years which is a great achievement for us,” he said.
“The Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition has been tough over the last nine years compared with what it used to be in the past.
“And for Tigers to dominate in that period is a wonderful achievement.”
Chow said he wanted to see the Tigers continue their dominance heading into the future.
