CHRISTMAS brings surprises, joy, reconciliation, good tidings and the spirit of celebrating the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
For the small congregation at Lae’s United church (Malaita), Christmas was celebrated in a quiet but meaningful way, giving time for those that gathered to reflect upon events and people that had touched their lives.
Activities at the church started last Thursday night with the carols by candle light.
This was followed by a Christmas service on Christmas Day.
The service on was led by deacon and church elder David Hoa from the Delena Fellowship group.
Mr Hoa encouraged the church to implore in the true meaning of Christmas and celebrate the cause and reason, which is Jesus Christ.
The church, which is dominated by the Papua region community, saw
families take time to share and spend time with friends, families and
loved ones.
One of the youths from the church arrived yesterday from Milne Bay province where he was part of the United church youth convention staged in the province.
Anthony Kadam, 20, who is also a member of the church’s music
ministry, said he was blessed to be part of the convention which united
youths from all other congregations of the United church all around the country.
Morobe circuit sent 20 youths from Cassowary, Taraka, Lae (Malaita) and Wau-Bulolo to the convention.
Meanwhile, Malaita church pastor Rev Raka Aiga left on Dec 19 with his family for a new posting in Port Moresby.
He had served at Malaita for two years after being posted from the Madang United church.
