MORE than 20,000 people of East-West Elimbari in Chuave district, Chimbu, have thanked a local construction company that upgraded their road.
The people said they had been cut off over the years with the Keu-Karaweri road being deprived of routine maintenance.
They welcomed JKB Constructions into the Karaweri area during a reception at Karaweri Primary School last Saturday.
Kirino community spokesman Yufugao Kiage said they never thought a construction company like JKB Construction would come to them one day to upgrade their road.
“JKB Construction   has come to rescue us. I thank you for realising our plight,” Kiage said.
Speaking for the Kibi community of Karaweri, Bandi Barex said they had a large number of people living in the area, all of whom had been deprived of access to a decent road.
Speaking on behalf of the education and health sectors in the area, Karaweri High School principal Trophimus Pamundi said they came to provide services to the people.
“However, we could not adequately perform because of the bad road condition which meant that school materials and medical supplies could not get through and patients, teachers and students had difficulties in moving,” Pamundi said.
Elizabeth Akepa who spoke on behalf of the women, thanked JKB Construction for upgrading the road and described it as “wiping their tears of women and children who faced difficulties in getting access to proper health and education facilities”.
JKB Construction director Nime Ause told the people that he shipped his machinery and trucks from Port Moresby to upgrade the Keu-Karaweri road because the Lord had seen their plight and sent him to help.
“JKB will make sure the road is passable.”
Ause thanked the National Planning Department for committing K6 million toward the upgrading of the road next year.
Michael Giglmai delivered the commitment on behalf of secretary for National Planning Dr Peter Gala Kora during the welcome ceremony in Karaweri.
