ACGAYUSELE Seventh-day Adventist church at Back Road in Lae went into its local community giving food to children and youth last Sunday.
Church members cooked food and went to the area to distribute food as well as encourage people to turn to God and live better lives.
Church elder Charles Tuoreke said their visit was part of their food ministry programme.
“We cooked food and went there and served them,” he said.
“We are trying to touch the lives of the young people and everyone living the area.
“It is an area where many crimes are happening and we are trying to help them realise the potential they have in their lives.”
Tuoreke said the area was situated close to two Seventh-day Adventist churches – Busu and Acgayusele – with the Busu church members visiting the community early in the morning (6am to 7am) and Acgayusele visiting them later in the morning (11am to midday).
He said the food ministry was an initiative of the Seventh-day Adventist community service, and its other churches in Lae had visited Eriku, the main market, stadium and town.
“With the food ministry, we are mostly trying to touch the lives of young people,” he said.
“In town, market and Eriku areas, there are many young people who are roaming around doing nothing.
“At our area, Back Road, there are many young people at the church bus stop, dump, Mambu and others who are contributing to a lot of law and order issues in the community, so we are trying to touch their lives and help them change.
“We want help them to see their potential because God has a plan in our lives and wants us to realise this. At least we help them to realise and accept Jesus in their lives,” Tuoreke said.
