THE Kiriwina United Church is focused on spiritual growth of children and has dedicated this year to the young generation, vice-chairman Daniel Tovukuta says.
During the Children’s Day celebration, which ended last Sunday with a dedication service, Tovukuta said the church was doing its utmost to nurture youths and direct them in a positive way.
Tovukuta said this was part of the church’s three-year vision, which started with the focus on children this year.
“The government and non-government agencies have their roles to play towards children while the church is doing its part to mould children spiritually,” he said.
“The purpose is to bring together, children and youths with all the elders and senior church members so that they can build spiritual support and sought guidance in the church.”
Tovukuta said the Children’s Day programme also involved youth groups.
He said a workshop was held, which covered topics on mentoring, children’s rights, the government agencies part in children’s welfare, family responsibilities and roles.
Children Youth Ministry leader Amon Jeremiah said it was a new experience initiated by the congregation and they established bonds with the elders and were open to discussions and issues affecting children and young peoplw.
“Such initiatives are highly recommended because youths are vulnerable to peer pressures and these activities will direct for youths to be positive individuals,” he said.
