THE Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mumeng (ELC Mumeng), Morobe, is hosting its weeklong district conference until Nov 2.

The theme of the conference that started on Saturday is “Christ in the Family” taken from the Bible.

The conference is expected to attract Lutheran members from the 19 parishes and 97 congregations and address issues about their Christian lives, the challenges and changes that affect them in their social, economic as well as their spiritual growth.

ELC Mumeng district youth coordinator, Chris Vincent said more than 500 young men and women were expected in the conference.

“The current terms of youth executive, which is two years, have been very challenging and short for me to implement some of the things in the district,” he said.

“I wanted to see this term extended to three or four years to give enough time for implementation.”

There was an assembly for women and youths on Monday and yesterday.

Other agendas expected are youth budgets, annual youth festival and election of district executives including youth, women’s and Sunday school.

Mumeng is one of the biggest districts with its youth population estimated to be 50,000 to 60,000.
