THE 50th synod of the United Church in Highlands region was opened by Nipa-Kutubu MP Jeffery Komal at the Tente Mission station.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill who was invited to the opening could not make it because of bad weather.
He sent his apology and committed K200,000 to the synod.
He, however ,sent a message telling the people of the United Church Highlands region “they are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am with them”.
He promised to send K200,000 through Komal to fund the programme this week.
Komal said churches played a crucial role in the development of the nation by providing services to people living in the remote areas.
“For example, the United Church is one of the churches that has been in the forefront to bring light to the remotest parts of Southern Highlands.
