Church ordains two new priests
THE Catholic diocese of Kavieng ordained two of its deacons to priests last week.
The ordination of deacon Gregory Fasokniver and Seminarian Mathew Pulo was officiated by the former bishop of the Kavieng diocese, archbishop Rochus Tatamai.
Deacon Fasokniver, 39, is from Duke of York in East New Britain and Tanga in New Ireland.
He began his journey at St John Vianney Formation Centre, Tuas from 2009 to 2010, where he progressed to the Catholic Theological Institute, Bomana, in Port Moresby.
Seminarian Pulo, 36, from Lossu and Mangai in the Kavieng, went to St Peter Channel for philosophy studies.
He did his theological studies at Bomana Catholic Theological Institute and graduated in 2020.
“Fr Gregory Fasokniver becomes the first priest to hail from St Anscar Parish Milmila of the Duke of York Islands,” archbishop Tatamai said.
“This is an historical breakthrough for Fr Gregory Fasokniver.”
