MORE than 500 members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church living in Kip, Kate district, are raising funds to commemorate 100 years of local evangelism.
The village, which is located in Sialum local level government of Tewai-Siassi, has set up a Kip 18 evangelists 100 years’ executive committee to see through event plans.
Treasurer Leo Suki said the congregation was planning to build a memorial stone, a bigger church building, and a congregation office at Kip village.
“Back in 1919, Rev Carl Wacke brought the gospel to the Kip community in Kalasa,” he said.
“Natives who volunteered and became local evangelists were trained to take up the task of spreading the gospel on behalf of Rev Carl Wacke, from the coastline to the hinterland.
