Church synod expects big turnout

VISITORS from abroad are expected to attend the Evangelical Lutheran Church national synod in Chimbu in 2018, according to Bishop Jack Urame.
He told The National yesterday that visitors from Germany, United States of America, Asia, the Pacific and worldwide are expected to attend.
The first Lutheran synod was held in Simbang, Finschhafen, in 1956.
The most recent one was  held in Madang in 2014.
Chimbu hosted the church’s national women’s conference last week.
The church has more 1.5 million members.
“Encouraging women’s programmes and education are vital to promoting gender equality,” Urame said.
“The increasing number of women attending the conference is a positive sign in the growth of the church.”
The East Chimbu district hosted the national women’s conference which nearly 6000 women attended in Sinasina-Yongomugl.
