THE Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Mendi, Southern Highlands, has received a K150,000 boost from Works Minister Francis Awesa to complete its 3ABN and Hope channel television network.

In addition, Awesa presented K50,000 to the church to help improve its facilities and committed K10,000 each to all other churches in his Imbonggu electorate.

He earlier this year committed K100,000 to the Kumin Catholic Church to set up a repeater station for religious broadcaster, Radio Maria.

“Such media programmes are important in that they change people’s lives. Not everyone attends church services and these important radio and TV programmes in the province will change the people’s mindset,” the minister said.

He said the Radio Maria would broadcast important messages to the rural people and the 3ABN and Hope networks would educate people on the situation the world was facing.

“The 3ABN and Hope Channel TV programmes are  educational and informative and will greatly improve the spiritual lives of many people.”

He added that churches played an active role in developing the country and transforming people.

3ABN and Hope Channel project chairman and church leader Moses Paliabe said the TV programmes could be accessed by people throughout SHP and neighbouring provinces such as Hela.

Palibe said the government’s recognition of church activity and programmes was important as people needed to be physically, mentally and spiritually fit to advance the country.
