Church upset over teacher selection

THE WESTERN Highlands government is not honouring a memorandum of agreement it signed with the Catholic Church over teacher selection, the Archbishop of Hagen Diocese, Douglas Young, says.
Young said that year after year the selection of teachers to church-run educational institutions in the province had been a problem.
He said this during the 13th grade 12 and 46th grade 10 graduation last Thursday at Notre Dame Secondary in the Mul-Baiyer district.
Young said that over the years, the provincial government never honoured the MoU its had signed and interfered in the selection process.
He said this after the provincial government and its provincial education board overlooked teachers’ selection done by the church and made changes to it.
Young said that provincial government must honour the MoU.
Chairman of the provincial education board denied any existence of the MoU.
“I didn’t know about your MoU,” said Lawrence Pena.
Meanwhile, Young said he would work with the provincial education board to ensure the safety of girls in schools.
