Church women ready for business after financial literacy training

IT was a joyous moment for Boundary Road Seventh Day Adventist mothers in Lae as they receive their financial literacy certificates last Sunday.
The training opened up many opportunities, and importantly, the mindsets of women – mostly single and widowed mothers – on how to develop small businesses.
Anis Foundation Inc (AFI) president Sil Poi said that the training involved classroom learning and practical sessions.
“AFI promotes an open market for the participants to sell their market products to expose their skills,” he said.
“AFI then gives certain amount of start-up capital as an interest free micro-credit loan to participants with a condition to pay back without any interest.”
Poi said the the business development skills training programme was conducted under the microfinance expansion project of the Centre of Excellency in Financial Inclusion throughout Lae and Morobe.
He said that the training was free of charge and open to anyone who resided within Papuan Compound, Salamander, One-Mile, Boundary Road, Bundi Camp and Nawaeb Block areas.
The next training is scheduled for Jan 28-31 at Boundary Road SDA Church.
AFI is a non-government organisation that operates in partnership with the SDA Union Mission.
