The National, Tuesday September 17th, 2013
TAVILO Plantation in Gazelle, East New Britain, came alive yesterday as it celebrated the country’s 38th independence anniversary.
Away from Kokopo and Rabaul towns, the Seventh-Day Adventist Pathfinders of East New Britain were all at Cocoa Coconut Institute (CCI) in Taviloto celebrate with the people.
They began their celebrations with a devotion at 6am at the Tavilo beach. Then they led a march at 9am from the Tavilo bridge to the CCI head office for the flag-raising ceremony.
It concluded their Independence Day beach camp which began last Friday night.
It was a time of empowerment, mentoring and worship for the pathfinders apart from having fun in the Tavilo waters.
The SDA Pathfinders include children between six and 15.
Tavilor ward councillor Tibu Malana was pleased to have the Pathfinders as part of the ward’s celebrations this year.
“In the body of Christ, there are people who are unique in different ways but we all make the body of Christ complete.
“Politics and religion aside, let us unite in the body of Christ and be one in celebrating our country’s independence,” Malana said.
SDA education director Philip Miaba told the crowd that PNG was unique in its cultures and practices.
He said the country should focus on building its foundations on good attitude and responsibilities otherwise it would achieve nothing in the next 38 years.
