THE Government should implement proper and transparent systems of funding and allocate more funds to churches in PNG.
Speaking during the presentation of a K10,000 cheque to the Jabem district synod committee yesterday, Lae district administrator Buds Botike said churches played a major role in the development and delivery of service in PNG.
“Churches help the Government in providing a balance in the society so  there are no shortfalls,” Mr Botike said.
“When the Government concentrates on providing service delivery and development in the country, churches assist in ensuring that people uphold Christian principles and values and be good law abiding citizens as well to assist the Government.”
Mr Botike also noted that the Government had “limited funding capacities to assist the church but that does not exclude the potential to develop other systems of funding for the church”.
