SETTLERS and churches at Omsis along the Wau-Bulolo highway will be celebrating the 43rd independence anniversary with an ecumenical Bible study camp.
Churches along the highway in Gabensis village of Wampar, Huon Gulf, Morobe have come together to celebrate with the gospel as a source of freedom. St Barnabas Lutheran congregation is leading other churches and smaller ministries in the area with the programme.
The study camp will start today and ends on Sunday. Chairman Bruce Bulang said St Yapiana, in Buang, and Zipa Lutheran congregation of Menyamya would be attending the camp. “About 1000 people are expected to attend the third camp,” he said.
The community will celebrate the annivesary in a church-oriented programme with marching and national anthem to be led by the Gabensis Adventist Primary students.
Two camps were held last year and in 2016. Bulang said the previous camps were effective, with many young people repenting.
“So we decided to have the study annually during independence anniversary week. This is to make our community peaceful and citizen’s law abiding.”
