CHRISTIAN Union Missionary and other churches in Southern Highlands province have been commended for providing vital services to the people.
Nipa-Kutubu MP Philemon Embel said this last Saturday in the Mendi Plateau local level government area, Southern Highlands, while opening an in-patient and an accident and emergency building for the Pomborol health centre.
The building was funded under the member’s joint district planning and budget priority committee (JDP&BPC) at a cost of K400,000.
The health centre was established in the 1960s and is run by the Christian Union Missionary.
A pioneer missionary Dr Mary Harmans who served in the area during 1960s, travelled from Kenya to witness the opening.
Embel said his JDP&BPC recognised the important health services provided by the church.
He said earlier, they had built three H95 houses at a cost of almost K1 million.
He said the health centre served 27,000 people from the 22 council wards in the Mendi Plateau and urged the people to look after it.
Embel told the people to take ownership of services provided by churches or government.
He said these services cost money and it would be hard to replace them
