THE PNG Church Partnership Programme (CPP) is staging its bi-annual forum today and National Planning Minister Charles Abel is expected to address the church development council.

The programme started in 2004 with a focus on bringing service delivery to rural parts of the country concentrating on education, health, HIV/AIDS and community development.

“The forums enable the seven mainline church partners to resolve differences of opinion and share knowledge and experiences on how they are serving their respective communities,” a statement from the partnership said.

“The seven mainline churches are Anglican, Baptist Union, Catholic, Evangelical Lutheran, Salvation Army, Seventh-Day Adventist and the United Church.

“United Church and the Uniting World Australia are hosting the event.

According to its annual report ending July 2012, CPP established projects nationwide of which seven have been rated as success stories.

“The seven projects represent the seven main churches – two in Madang (one Lutheran and one Anglican), one in Western Highlands (Baptist Union), one in Southern Highlands (United church), one in Goroka (Salvation Army), one in West New Britain (Catholic) and one in East New Britain (SDA).

“The programme outcomes focus on capacity building of churches, improved service delivery to communities and public sector governance.

The forum is at the PNG Institute of Public Administration in Waigani.
