CIC unveils new strategy for coffee

Business, Main Stories

THE Coffee Industry Corp (CIC) has drawn a new business strategy to effectively deliver services to coffee farmers and stakeholders in the area to boost national coffee production.
CIC chief executive officer Navi Anis said at the close of a two-week planning workshop in Lae last Wednesday the plan highlighted specific issues that have to be prioritised and projects to be carried out.
Anis said the business plan translated the revised PNG coffee industry strategic plan (PNGCISP) 2008-18 into “achievable and objectives”.
The plan targets both the remote and accessible areas of PNG that grow either arabica or robusta coffee.
Depending on project priority and funding, CIC aims to improve its services to the districts under the six main areas of productivity, scale of production, marketing systems, information and communication, legal and policy and capacity building.
Workshop facilitator Dr Simba Simbanda urged the participants, especially from CIC, “to believe in themselves and take ownership of the plan to implement it and achieve the desired results”.
The workshop was funded by the Australian research and development support facility (ARDSF) via AusAID and was a follow up of various other workshops held since last year and early this year to translate the PNGCISP into achievable plans.
Various workshop participants expressed great satisfaction for gaining the programme planning knowledge.
CIC industry regulation and compliance manager Sam Menaga said that such knowledge was offered on the university level and was gained over a number of years.
CIC director James Korarome shared similar sentiments and encouraged the CIC staff to work together.
