Citizen’s arrest commended

POLICE in Manus have commended five ward councillors for making a citizen’s arrest on a man after another man was killed with a bush knife.
Police commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said the man from Patusi village was arrested by the five councilors from Pere wards in the Penabu Nali Sopat local level government and handed over to police.
The deceased was from Pao village in the Tetidu local level government.
He had injuries on the head, hand, hips and knees and was taken to the Lorengau Provincial Hospital last Tuesday. He died at the hospital on Sunday.
Yapu thanked the ward councillors for handing over the suspect to police.
He said everyone must take ownership of law and order including ward councillors, village court magistrate and community leaders.
